In Toni Aleo’s exhilarating debut, the first in a series featuring the hockey hunks of the Nashville Assassins, a reformed bad boy helps a charming, willful woman face off against the demons of her past.
No matter how hard she tries, Eleanor Fisher never thinks she’s good enough, from her job to her weight to her love life. After enduring years of abuse at the hands of an ex-boyfriend, Elli has been drifting through life in a daze. Until, that is, she meets Shea Adler on a promotional shoot for the NHL’s Nashville Assassins. Before Elli knows what’s happening, the gorgeous Shea breaks the ice and shatters her world.
A brilliant athlete inside the rink, Shea Adler is tired of the life he’s living outside of it: the girls, the money, the drinking. But everything changes when he meets Elli. After laying eyes on this feisty, witty, beautiful woman, he feels like he’s just taken the hardest hit of his life. No matter how skeptical she is, Shea knows they are meant to be together—if only he can convince Elli to put her insecurities aside throw her insecurities out the window before she misses out on a shot at love.
Trying to Score:
In a captivating novel of hockey and healing hearts, the newest member of the Nashville Assassins pulls a power play to make things right with the one that got away.
Fallon Parker’s dream has always been to turn her family’s wine company into a runaway success and eventually to start a cellar of her own. Since graduating from college, she has worked relentlessly to make that dream a reality, especially after taking a chance on love—and losing. By the time Fallon becomes an official sponsor of the Nashville Assassins, she feels like all her hard work is finally paying off. And then the man who broke her heart skates back into her life.
On the ice, Lucas Brooks is the NHL’s leading scorer—at least when he’s not in the box. Off the ice, he’s a mess, with all his anger and misery bottled up inside. He threw away the most important person in his life and has regretted it ever since. But when Lucas returns to Nashville in a trade, he’s determined to convince Fallon that he’s a changed man. The attraction is still there. The tension is electrifying. But the odds are stacked against them—especially after Lucas finds out that Fallon has been keeping a devastating secret.
The chiseled men of the Nashville Assassins can make anything happen when they go all-out for the women they want—even turn a one-night stand into a happily ever after.
Audrey Parker is up against the boards. She’s stuck in a job she hates and pining for a total jerk. Meanwhile, her sister Fallon is moving out and getting married to hockey star Lucas Brooks. Where is Audrey’s Prince Charming? Nothing she does has ever seemed to be good enough for any of the men in her life. Audrey’s about to hit rock bottom . . . until she wakes up next to Tate Odder.
The thrill of moving up from the minors to the Nashville Assassins was a welcome distraction. But not even becoming the first rookie goalie to tally three shutouts in the Stanley Cup Finals alleviates the pain. With the loss of his parents and sister weighing as heavily on his soul as ever, Tate Odder can’t keep pretending he’s okay. That’s when he meets smart, sexy Audrey. Her gentle warmth and quirky sense of humor make him feel whole for the first time in too long. But to stay that way forever, Tate must find a way to accept his past and learn to live for love.
And, look for FALLING FOR THE BACKUP Novella & BLUE LINES in August!
Opposites do more than just attract in Toni Aleo’s latest Nashville Assassins novel about a very bad boy and the good girl he can’t resist.
The instant Piper Allen sees Erik Titov, she wants him—wants his rock-hard body, sure, but the strength and mystery that lie behind that superstar hockey jock demeanor, too. So when he sidles up to her at a bar and slinks his arm around her waist, she’s lost. What follows is the wildest night of her life . . . followed by inevitable heartbreak the next morning. And then, a few weeks later, a very big surprise: two blue lines on a pregnancy test.
Only a check to the head could make Erik fall for a nice girl like Piper. But since their crazy-sexy night together, he’s been trying to forget about her alluring body by falling into bed with every woman in Nashville, and it’s not working. So when Piper shows up at his house with a baby-bomb to drop, it doesn’t take much for Erik to suggest the nuclear option: marriage. While it’s supposed to be all for show, the second they say “I do,” the ice between them starts to melt into sizzling steam.

In this emotional and powerfully erotic tale of love and redemption, a tender vicar’s daughter and a tortured war hero discover that sin may be their only salvation.
When Mary Smith’s corrupt, debt-ridden brother drags her to a seedy pub to sell her virtue to the highest bidder, Alasdair Thornham leaps to the rescue. Of course the marquess is far from perfect husband material. Although he is exceedingly handsome, with a perfect, strong body, chiseled jaw, and piercing green eyes, Alasdair is also too fond of opium, preferring delirium to reality. Still, he has come to Mary’s aid, and now she intends to return the favor. She will show him that he is not evil, just troubled.
Mary was a damsel in need of a hero, but Alasdair’s plan is shortsighted. He never foresaw her desire to save him from himself. Alasdair is quite at home in his private torment, until this angel proves that a heart still beats in his broken soul. The devil may have kept her from hell, but will Mary’s good intentions lead them back to the brink—or to heaven in each other’s arms?

Tall, dark, and lethal…
Trouble just walked into Nicholas Rixey’s tattoo parlor. Becca Merritt is warm, sexy, wholesome-pure catnip to a very jaded Nick. He’s left his military life behind to become co-owner of Hard Ink Tattoo, but Becca is his ex-commander’s daughter. Loyalty won’t let him turn her away. Lust has plenty to do with it too.
With her brother presumed kidnapped, Becca needs Nick. She just wasn’t expecting to want him so much. As their investigation turns into all-out war with an organized crime ring, only Nick can protect her. And only Becca can heal the scars no one else sees.
Desire is the easy part. Love is as hard as it gets. Good thing Nick is always up for a challenge…
About Laura Kaye:
Laura is the New York Times and USA Today bestselling author of nearly a dozen books in contemporary and paranormal romance. Growing up, Laura’s large extended family believed in the supernatural, and family lore involving angels, ghosts, and evil-eye curses cemented in Laura a life-long fascination with storytelling and all things paranormal. She lives in Maryland with her husband, two daughters, and cute-but-bad dog, and appreciates her view of the Chesapeake Bay every day.
I can’t say I didn’t like the author’s writing but this was not the story for me. I mean it is truly a story that should be told as just a single novel not broken in to 3 parts. Suspend your belief and be willing to overlook the fact that the female lead has only been in town an hour or so before she meets both male leads and even though she’s a virgin has wanton thoughts about both of them.
Mary has inherited the sex shop and part-ownership in a bad from the mother who gave her up as a baby. She’s repressed but interested in starting a new life in Florida when she meets John who is walking a dog past her mom’s house. John ends up being the manager/security guy for the sex shop and lives in the apartment above it. She finds him interesting but while heading in to the house ends up meeting Max who ends up kissing her before she even knows his name. Oh and even better…. just a bit after that he has her top up and is sucking on her breasts. I mean dude….. she’s a virgin and inexperienced but can do this without screaming or slapping the crap out of him?? Really??
We get even weirder later in the two where she agrees to let John teach her about sex and then sleeps with the man less than 24 hours after running in to him??? Ok … I finished part 2 just because I couldn’t stop but will not go pick up part 3 because it just hasn’t kept me interested enough to complete. If you can suspend belief then go for it… honestly if this had just been a novel I would have finished it even if I didn’t want to just because I’m stubborn that way.
Thanks to NetGalley.com and Pocket Star for giving me the chance to read this even if it didn’t work for me. I may still look for full works from the author just to make sure it isn’t just the issue with the format and story choice because even with its flaws I still found myself interested in it.
A co-worker recently had a class project where she needed to design a logo for a business. She asked if I minded if she tried out a few things and designed one for me. I’ve been meaning to come up with something and since I’m not an artist … I jumped at the chance.
I will tell you I loved this tentative design out of the four she provided….
This will be changing a bit but it suits me to a T and I hope you enjoy this initial glimpse…
I’ve had one of those weeks where things just sucked… but you know what… Comfort food and reading tend to help so this weekend I am doing a lot of eating and reading. You’ll see reviews coming up in the next day or two of reads I have done over the past week but in honor of my Aunt Edna I’m going to share an incredibly easy cake…
Aunt Edna’s Pineapple Dump Cake
In a 9X13 ungreased pan mix the following with a fork:
2 cups flour
2 tsp baking soda
1 1/2 cups sugar
1/2 tsp salt
3/4 cup nuts (pecan or walnut but optional)
1 tsp vanilla
2 beaten eggs
1 can of crushed pineapple in juice (regular sized can but I forgot to check the oz_ similar to canned veggie sized)
After mixing level out and bake for approximately 35 minutes in a 375 degree oven.
Then the oh sooooo good stuff…
While the cake is still warm frost with the following mixture:
4 oz cream cheese
2 tbsp margarine
1 tsp vanilla
1 3/4 cup powdered sugar
Now sit back wait for it to finish cooling and dig in…
Can I just say how much I love this cake? My aunt makes this and deviled eggs every year for the fourth of July. I look forward to seeing her but man oh man do I love her cake and eggs… LOL
Anyway… If you have any comfort foods you adore please feel free to share the recipes as I love love love to cook.
I bit the bullet and moved the blog over to WordPress while it is still young and relatively easy to move. Unfortunately it has broken the http://www.bookaholicanon.com address for now so please use the longer WP address to link to me. 😦
My hope is to have the URL back to normal in the next day or so and then never ever ever trying to do this again!!!
Enjoy and more reviews to post over the weekend with a guest poster on Wednesday, October 3rd.
This is my first Linda Lael Miller read and I don’t think it will be my last. While this one was a very quick read and HEA it was still a good enough read that I will take a look at the back-list in the series.
Sawyer has just arrived in Blue River, TX in the middle of a snowstorm. He is in town to take over as marshal for his cousin but ends up with more than he had ever imagined. As he is riding to the hotel he is shot by an unknown assailant and ends up falling off his horse in front of the schoolhouse. Lucky for him he ends up being found by Piper who brings him in and binds his wound as best she can.
Piper is a strong woman but in those times it just isn’t proper (no matter how innocent it actually is) for a single woman to share a house with a non-relative male. She ends up having her reputation tarnished but Sawyer proposes a marriage in order to keep the gossips at bay. Yeah sure they have only known each other for a few days, most of which he was sleeping and recovering from the gunshot, but hey we are in the world of romance books so all must work out in the end.
I think the reason I liked the romance even in such a short span was that Sawyer didn’t push her to truly do anything Piper didn’t want to. I also liked what you saw of Piper and her willingness to do what’s right even at the cost of her reputation in a time where a single woman with no family desperately needed to hold on to it otherwise she could end up jobless and resorting to prostitution to survive. She’s strong and mouthy which will suit Sawyer and his extended family perfectly in the long run.
This was an enjoyable quick read and I thank NetGalley.com/Harlequin Books for letting me read it in exchange for my honest review.
An Outlaw’s Christmas – Linda Lael Miller – 3 Stars
Please suspend belief for the amount of time it takes you to read this and if you do so it isn’t a bad read.
Cassie is a work-a-holic who is stuck working as an accountant for her family’s construction business when she would rather be getting her hands dirty. She uses escorts at various social functions rather than letting a man in to her life. All this changes due to mistaken identity.. and man is he some sexy man meat in a tux… She lets her hair down at the party and ends up having some amazing sex with the man she thinks is an escort. In the course of a few short days she ends up with a lot more than she ever bargained for and finally gets out of her shell with both her family and her work.
Josh is just stopping by for a meeting when he is mistaken for Cassie’s escort for the evening. He is instantly drawn to her and goes along with the charade never giving her his last name. You see he is the competitor that keeps stealing contracts out from under her family’s construction business. He’s a good guy and immediately wants more from this wildcat hidden under ice… I liked what he was willing to do to prove he wanted to be with her and even though it was quick I enjoyed where it went.
I liked the view of her family but to be honest I wish that the author had used a bit more time and made this book a little longer to make the ending believable.
Special thanks to NetGalley.com and Grand Central Publishing for letting me read this in exchange for my honest review.
